Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does Lily & Iris only have one of each dress?
Lily & Iris is primarily a special order shop, meaning we carry dress styles from a variety of designers who allow us to order those styles in a variety of colors and sizes. You get the freedom to choose from over 150 styles, hundreds of colors, and sizes ranging from 00 to 30, as well as other  custom options. Our bridal consultants will help you and your bridesmaids choose the perfect dress, and then we’ll order it directly from the designer in the color and size you need.
Can I walk in, buy a dress, and take it home right then?
Yes. Lily & Iris has many styles that can be purchased directly off the floor, if the size and color are right for your needs. Often it is merely a matter of working with a seamstress to alter the dress and make it perfect.
Do I need to have an appointment to come try on dresses?
While we do welcome walk-ins, we recommend appointments for several reasons. Not only does it ensure that we’ll have a fitting room designated for you and your girls, it means we’ll have an idea of what you’re looking for, and can already have a few ideas set aside to show you and your bridesmaids.
What should I bring to my first appointment?
Even if not all your bridesmaids will be able to join you, come to your first appointment at Lily & Iris ready to find your bridesmaid dresses! Bring along at least one bridesmaid to try on dresses for you (unless you want to try on dresses too!), any color swatches you might like to match, and an idea in your head about the overall look and feel of your wedding day. Don’t have colors chosen yet? No problem! Lily & Iris has piles of swatch books full of gorgeous colors, and bridal consultants well-versed in how to help you choose a color for your bridal party. We are happy to take a look at any inspiration photos, Pinterest boards, or paint cards you might like to bring along too, to help you find the perfect dresses.
How much time should I allot for my first appointment?
For your first visit, expect to spend about 45 minutes to an hour looking through and trying on dresses. This is plenty of time to see our stock of bridesmaid and mother of the bride dresses, choose a handful to try on, and narrow it down to a few favorites, and then choose The One(s)!
Do you have junior bridesmaid and flower girls dresses?
We do. Though we certainly have more styles for the bridesmaids and mothers of the bride, we do offer a select group of flower girl and junior bridesmaid styles for your younger attendants, including styles from The Dessy Group and Lynn Lugo.
When do I need to order my dresses in order to have them in time for my wedding?
We recommend that you start looking for your bridesmaid dresses at least six to eight months before your wedding. Though we can often get them faster, it often takes about three months from the time your order it submitted with the designer to when we have the dress in the shop. And that three months doesn’t even account for time to choose the styles, get all your girls measured, and have alterations done when the dresses arrive. Trust us, the more time you give yourself (and your girls) the happier you’ll be!
My wedding is very soon. How quickly can I get a special order dress?
Most of our designers offer a rush option, and many can get a dress to us in as little as one month. Rushed dress orders tend to cost a bit more than normal orders though, so don’t delay any longer than you have to. You also have the option of purchasing something directly from our stock, though we often only have one or two dresses in each style and exact color.
I’ve chosen my dress(es). What happens now?
Once we’ve received all the relevant information from each bridesmaid and confirmed the order with you, we’ll submit the order to the designer. The designer then processes the order, cuts the fabric for your dress(es) and assembles them. Once the dresses are ready, they ship them off to us here at Lily & Iris, where we carefully hand-press each dress, label them with your bridesmaids’ names, and then give you a call! From there, your girls can arrange to have alterations done by any seamstress of your choice. Not sure who to use? Ask us! We work with several amazing seamstresses in Salt Lake City and the surrounding area, and are always happy to pass their information along to you.
